Mejias believes strongly in healthy families. With his political standing, he was able to keep child victims of sexual abuse safe from their perpetrators by sponsoring the toughest Megan's Notification Law in New York State. He also supported stricter laws regarding where released sex offenders are legally allowed to reside. He also sponsored and passed a new legislation to track sex offenders activity on their personal computers. He has enabled law enforcement to be able to strictly monitor sex offenders online activity,thus enabling them to catch an offender in predatory online activities.
David, also is a strong advocate of women's rights and assisting, in regards to domestic violence situations.
He has also been named some prestigious honors, such as Long Island's Business News 40 Rising Stars Under 40 and Long Island Press Power List of one of the 50 most powerful and influential Long Islanders for four years, consecutively.
